ABOUT

Our vision is a transparent, participatory, and fair Canada in which government, politics, business, civil society, and the daily lives of people are free from corruption.

Our mission is to combat corruption and foster a culture of integrity in all sectors of Canadian society by conducting research, policy development, capacity-building, and advocacy.

THE ISSUES

The High Cost of Corruption

Corruption costs billions worldwide, erodes trust, and undermines governments’ ability to deliver on their promises. Corrupt decision-making – whether in government or business – drives injustice. It is a source of friction that stops our collective will from translating into action and erodes our public institutions.

A Global Issue - with local consequences

Corruption is a cross-cutting challenge that weakens good government, hampers economic growth, contributes to environmental degradation, and exacerbates inequality, poverty, division, and crises.

Trust is declining

Aside from a slight uptick in 2023, trust and confidence in our public officials are eroding. In the last few years, our country has progressively declined in Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index, which measures perceptions of public sector corruption, falling out of the top ten least corrupt countries.

Canada’s Snow Washing Problem

Many Canadians see corruption as something that only happens elsewhere. They are mistaken. Canada has become a haven for money laundering (colloquially called “snow washing”) and transnational crime, with tens of billions of dollars laundered within our borders each year.
